I have had the pleasure of working with Kate for the past 3.5 years. Kate is the only one who motivates me enough to get up and work out at 5:45 in the morning! When COVID hit she immediately converted all of our in-person sessions to zoom and her workouts were just as intense even without gym equipment. She tailors every workout to my body’s specific needs and is never out of ideas that are challenging and pushing me towards my fitness goals. There is literally no one else I would want as my personal trainer.
The wonderful Kate McNally has been working with me for over a year now and I keep learning more about the wealth of knowledge that helps her understand individual physiques/physiology and create the workouts a person needs. For example, she always knows the right stretch for a joint problem or how to modify an exercise for an individual. I started working with Kate at Mike's gym but she's been amazingly resourceful working by Zoom this year--in one-on-one sessions and small groups—with participants who have just an exercise mat, a few bands, and sometimes an exercise ball. She's really improved my posture, balance, and all the things that a 66-year-old needs strengthened.
Two years ago I was at the peak of training for my second marathon, when I pulled my knee in a way that prevented me from running around Jamaica Pond without intense pain, making the idea of completing a full marathon impossible. I am so lucky that amid my panic, I called Kate. First, her theory about what the knee injury was (a tight IT band that ended up pulling on my inner knee) was more sound than what I heard from my orthopedist at MGH (and she is definitely a more attentive listener). Then, Kate worked with me to design exercises that strengthen the muscles around the knee. From Kate I learned cross training exercise to improve my running, and a sense of body awareness I have never had before (even after 10 years of pretty serious running). In the end I was able to complete the marathon injury free and give Kate complete credit for the victory!
